I think I'm now officially a frickin' gypsy
April and I found a cozy downtown apartment a couple blocks away from Wascana Park today so we get possession of it Aug. 15. So I am moving yet again. I hate the process of moving but it seems I'm moving every year. I'm really excited to move into our place and have a home all to ourselves. We've lived together for the last year but it's hard when there are three other people hsaring the same place. Even when we're "home" it doesn't feel like we're home. Living in our current townhouse often feels like a college dorm room or soemthing. In my early and mid-twenties I wouldn't have minded our living situation so much but I've really felt cramped in this place. I like my own space so I can't wait to get the new apartment all set up. I can't wait to be able to come home and cook up a meal with April without having to worry about the kitchen being cluttered from 5 people trying to coexist. So even though summer is almost over, I'm really excited for the next couple months. April and I will be in a new place, I'll be back at it for one final semester of grad school, I'll be hosting at The Pump a bit more, I'll probably be doing some more movie extra work, Spirit of the West are coming to the Ex, and the Folk Fest is coming right up. Life is good.
I ain't no extra, I'm a leading man
Okay, I ain't no leading man, but I was an extra in a made for TV film called Intimite Strangers a couple days ago. Judging by the title I'm expecting it to be one of those late night movies they show on Bravo or what Mark refers to as "Christian porn.". During my day of shooting, we shot a few scenes at O'Hanlon's where I was amongst a crowd of people having some post-work sociables and dancing up a storm to a band from Saskatoon miming and lip-synching. It was so incredibly hot and humid that those of us who got stuck dancing ended up sweating profusely. We later shot a coffee shop scene so I got to perfect my talent of pretending to hold a conversation with someone by miming words. Our holding area was at the old Apocalypse Records and judging by the basement, the name was very appropriate. The bathrooms were held in the dungeon-like basement so it was an adventure to say the least whenever nature called. The basement could pass for the set of Saw 3. This was the third time I've been an extra so I guess I'm getting to be a bit of a pro at it.
Karaoke in Calgary... the last of my pics...
Calgary...at the Stampede

Here a few more pics from us wandering the grounds at the Calgary Stampede. I'm not sure why, but I got talked into buying not one, but two, brooms. Apparently it's the only broom I'll ever need or have to buy ever. But I don't have a picture of said broom. But I digress. I do, however, have a pic of a man impersonating a metal Elvis statue. So that's gotta count for something.
How I Spent My Summer Vacation Part 3... Medicine Hat

I finally got off my ass and scanned more pics of our Alberta vacation on my computer, plus Tina e-mailed me a few pics that she took so without further ado, I present to you, my loyal viewer, some more momentos from our Alberta adventures. In this set you will see everything from the obcsene to the sublime during our time in Medicine Hat and Cypress Hills with Jenn and Dwayne... everything from girls making out to me riding a mule named Otis to a promo for Red Bull.

Our gracious hosts
METRIC

As I mentioned before, April, Gianni, Tina and I got to see one of my fave bands, Metric, play at The Whiskey in Calgary. It was a great show, but they sold WAY too many tickets. It was wall-to-wall people. We tried staying by the front of the stage but there were too many drunken, rowdy people who wanted to turn the place into a mosh-pit. By the way the crowd was acting you'd think it would be an all-ages, hardcore punk show. I love Metric, but I did not anticipate a mosh pit. On a side note, April and I met Larissa from Muchmusic's VJ Search. She was very nice and laid back and she let me take a pic of her and April. So here are some pics from the show.
Speaking of nasty mullets...
No, I'm not going to puke...
Pt. 2
How I Spent My Summer Vacation Pt. 1

Last night April and I got back from a 7 day vacation in Alberta. We spent some time in Medicine Hat to visit Jenn, then we went camping for a couple days in Cypress Hills where I rode a horse, or rather a mule, for the first time in my life. We then went to Calgary for three days to visit my cousin Ian, his girlfriend Irene as well as Tina and Gianni. In Calgary we hit the Stampede grounds, went karaoke-ing, and saw Metric live at The Whiskey. Here are some pics from our adventures. I still have to develeop some of April's pics from her disposable cameras, so here's Round 1 of our pics. I'm quite the cowboy, eh?
